A 17-year-old Trail girl has been found, safe and sound, after an exhaustive search today, according to South Columbia Search and Rescue president Mike Hudson.

She was found in Trail at roughly 3:30 p.m.

“We had us, Castlegar, Rossland and Nelson SAR teams again,” he said. “I was quite surprised at the really good turn-out with members, after how exhausted they were (from a three-day search that ended Tuesday and another rescue Tuesday evening.”

They employed a jetboat, seadoos and a helicopter in the search, while RCMP had a Police Service Dog assist, searching all the way to the US border.

“We also had lots of people stopping (the command tent) offereing to help – it was amazing,” Hudson said.

Ed. Note: From the Castlegar Source and the Trail Champion, we would like to thank SAR volunteers who have worked so diligently to guard the safety and well-being of our communities.

Another search is under way in Trail today, this time for a high-risk 17-year-old girl, according to RCMP Sgt. Darren Oelke.

Olivia McMillan was last seen at around 7 p.m. last night when she left her home in East Trail and never returned.

She’s described as 5′ 5”, roughly 150 lbs, with brown eyes and short brown hair. She was wearing a dark hoodie and black runners, and has an iPod with white earbuds.

“We’re concerned for her well-being,” Oelke said. “We’re searching here, but there is a possibility she went to Nelson.”

South Columbia Search and Rescue (SAR) has set up a command centre on the Esplanade, and seven teams are out searching, including SAR members from Castlegar, Rossland and Nelson, according to South Columbia SAR manager Mike Hudson.

“We also have a jet boat out on the water (Columbia River), and we’ll be putting out some seadoos as well.”

A police service dog is also involved in the search

Anyone with any information about McMillan’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Trail RCMP detachment at 250-364-2566.
