After nearly a year of planning, Todd and Jay Manton with their ziplining company and the team at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort are excited to announce breaking ground on their newest ziplining operation — Mineral Mountain Ziplines.

“After the overwhelming response to our first zipline in Nelson, Jay and I were looking for an opportunity to expand our business,” says Todd Manton, co-owner and operator of Kokanee Mountain Zipline located north of Nelson.

“We knew the East Kootenays was a really dynamic region with spectacular scenery,” added Todd of the new venture Mineral Mountain Ziplines in Fairmont Hot Springs.

Kokanee Mountain Zipline is the original West Kootenay zipline company, offering six ziplines which reach up to 300 feet off the ground and the chance to zip 2,400 feet on its longest line.

Mineral Mountain Ziplines will offer a 1.3-kilometre track home to six different ziplines. The shortest line will be 130 feet and the longest nearly 1,600 feet. During their 2.5-hour zipline journey, guests will have a chance to take in incredible views of the Columbia Valley’s Lake Windermere and Columbia Lake, as well as the valley’s natural Hoodoos.

“It’s one of the only places in Canada where you can zipline below the headwall of a Rocky Mountain,” says Manton.“

You’ll criss-cross back and forth over Fairmont Creek Canyon and overlook the vast Columbia Valley with spectacular sights of the Purcell Mountains on the opposite side of the valley.”

As a family-run business with deep roots in the Kootenays, the Mantons—alongside the Resort—are excited about giving guests a chance to explore this corner of the region. During their stay, guests can also take advantage of all the other offerings at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, such as golf, camping, spa services, kayaking and more, in addition to the resort’s renowned natural mineral hot springs.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort President and CEO Pascal van Dijk says the partnership is a perfect fit for the resort.

“This is an activity everyone can enjoy, and it’s a wonderful way to enjoy our resort’s beautiful surroundings in a whole new way.”

Construction has started as of Monday (April 24), and the ziplining tours are slated for an early July opening.

In the coming weeks, Mineral Mountain will begin to hire for almost 20 positions, including guest services, guides, and van guides.
