Columbia Avenue project to begin next week

To All Residents of the City of Castlegar:

The City of Castlegar is undertaking the redevelopment of Columbia Avenue from 17 Street to 13 Street. Construction will begin on Monday, May 14 and is expected to be completed in October 2018.

Normal hours of work will be: Monday to Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work will include:

Replacing the water main ;

Replacing the storm sewer main;

Replacing sanitary sewer mains;

Repaving Columbia Avenue, constructing new curbs and

gutters;

Installing new banner poles, street furniture and trees;

Creating new one-way separate cycle tracks for bicyclists;

Widening sidewalks for pedestrians.

Traffic will remain two lanes with no centre lane and be controlled by flaggers. There will be small windows where single-lane traffic will need to be utilized, however single-lane traffic will be kept to a minimum.
