Effective at noon Pacific time on Thursday, July 26, campfires will be prohibited throughout the City of Castlegar. This will be in addition to the City of Castlegar Open Air Burning Bylaw 905 and in conjunction with the campfire ban issued by the Southeast Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

This campfire ban will remain in effect until otherwise notified by the office of the City of Castlegar Fire Chief.

Further, prohibited activities once the campfire ban takes effect will include: the use of fireworks, tiki torches, burning barrels, chimineas or burning cages of any kind

These prohibitions do not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres. The use of campfire apparatus that does not meet these specifications is prohibited.
