A blaze last night caused significant damage to a Robson home, according to Robson Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jeff Grant.

“At approximately 10 p.m.  (on) July 29, RVFD received a call for fire and smoke showing at 1111 Zaitstoff Road,” he said. “RVFD arrived on scene to find a self-ventilated fire showing from approximately the middle of the single-family mobile home.

“With the help of Pass Creek and Ootishenia fire departments, the fire was quickly brought under control.”

He said the residents were away from the home at the time, and the fire was called in by a neighbor who heard the smoke detector going off.

“This is a classic example of how important smoke detectors are and should serve as a reminder to everyone to make sure theirs is in operating condition.”

Grant said one fire fighter was injured and was transferred to Trail hospital to be checked out.

“The fire fighter has been released and is in good condition.”

He said crews were able to contain the blaze to one room, but there was significant structural damage, although there’s no damage estimate at this time.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
