Downtown Wayfinding Signs installation Aug. 26 - 28
The City of Trail, in conjunction with XL Welding and Speedpro Signs, will be installing downtown business wayfinding signs onto the red minor gateway features (pillars) located on Victoria Street (Highway 3B) and Pine, Cedar and Bay Avenue. The installation will take place from Wednesday, Aug. 26 to Friday, Aug. 28. We ask that motorists take caution when driving through the area, and to obey the traffic control personnel onsite. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
About the Downtown Wayfinding Sign Project
✔️In 2018, the City of Trail identified a need to provide businesses a signage opportunity to help draw motorists from Victoria Street / the main Highway Corridor to the downtown core.
✔️The City worked with Urban Systems, an engineering firm that provides services to governments, to come up with a concept that would be conducive to Trail’s downtown layout and proximity to the main highway corridor.
✔️A concept showing wayfinding signs that could be added onto the existing minor gateway features (pillars) on Pine, Cedar and Bay Avenue was developed.
✔️The City then acquired approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to proceed with the installation of the signs.
✔️In late 2019, the City issued Questionnaires to the downtown businesses to gauge interest in the program. The Questionnaire results indicated a strong interest in the program.
✔️In early 2020, the City issued applications with a deadline of March 12, 2020. The number of submitted applications exceeded the number of signs available; therefore, the City proceeded with a lottery to choose the successful applicants. All successful applicants then went through a proofing process to approve the layout and 2-year lease agreement for their respective signs.
✔️Business owners who applied for the 2020 intake, and who were unsuccessful in the lottery, will be considered before any new or repeating applicants. New applicants will be placed on a waiting list. More information about the program is available at www.trail.ca/DowntownWayfinding
