United Way BC Launches Province-Wide Wildfire Appeal

With approximately 90 wildfires burning across the province and nearly 10,000 people under Evacuation Alerts and Orders, United Way BC is calling on British Columbians to donate to its United for BC Wildfire Recovery Fund in support of communities affected.
The fund provides assistance not only during emergencies, but throughout the months and years of recovery that follow. Donations help local organizations respond to immediate needs while also supporting longer-term community recovery, resilience-building, and preparedness efforts.
United Way BC has already stepped in to support the Shxwhá:y Village First Nation’s Reception Centre as they welcome evacuees from Boston Bar and the Fraser Canyon. It is also connected with emergency management teams and community partners in anticipation of providing aid.
“Wildfires are affecting communities across British Columbia, bringing uncertainty, displacement, and loss for many people,” said Michael McKnight, President & CEO of United Way BC. “British Columbians have always come together to support one another in times of crisis. Through the United for BC Wildfire Recovery Fund, we can help ensure communities have access to critical supports not only during an emergency, but throughout the recovery process that follows.”
United Way BC works closely with local non-profit organizations, community agencies, and emergency response partners to direct resources where they can have the greatest impact. Funding may support essential services such as food assistance, mental health and wellness supports, outreach services, community connections, and other recovery initiatives identified by local organizations.
With extensive experience coordinating emergency response and recovery efforts throughout B.C., United Way BC is uniquely positioned to ensure donor dollars reach communities most affected by wildfires. By leveraging strong local partnerships and community expertise, the organization can respond quickly while supporting recovery efforts that continue long after the immediate crisis has passed.
