A Montrose man is facing criminal charges after allegedly stabbing his significant other, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 8:37 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to an alleged assault with a weapon that occurred between a 38-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman at a residence in the 700 block of 11th Avenue in Montrose,” Wicentowich said. “Officers believed what began as a verbal argument escalated into the man choking the woman and using a knife to cut her abdomen. The man also suffered what appeared to be serious self-inflicted knife wounds to his leg and arm that required medical treatment.

“An officer arrested the man for Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267 of the Criminal Code. Officers took the man into custody and lodged him into the cellblock at the Trail Detachment. He later appeared via telephone before a judge and was released from custody on conditions.”

The 38-year-old Montrose man will make his first appearance on Jan. 12, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.
