A Salmo man could be facing prison time after a road rage situation led to an alleged assault.

“On Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7:29 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a 18-year-old Trail man was allegedly assaulted by a 31-year-old Salmo man in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Marcolin Drive in Trail,” said Trail RCMP NCO/ic Sgt. Mike WIcentowich.

“The incident allegedly began on the Montrose Hill on Hwy 3B. The Trail man was driving his vehicle westbound when the Salmo man in his vehicle allegedly began braking hard in front of him and his vehicle. The Trail man turned his vehicle into the parking lot of a business once he reached the bottom of the hill. The Salmo man and his vehicle allegedly followed the Trail man into the parking. The Salmo man approached the Trail man and his vehicle, opened the driver side door and physically assaulted the Trail man while he was inside his vehicle.”

Wicentowich said the Salmo man fled the scene after the incident.

He said Trail RCMP were able to track down the Salmo man with information gathered during the course of the investigation. Officers arrested the Salmo man and he was later released with a future court date and on several conditions.

“The 31-year-old Salmo man will face one count of Assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code on March 2, 2023, in Provincial Court in Rossland.

Please report traffic incidents that occur on the roadway to the police so they can be handled in a calm and professional manner,” Wicentowich said. “An assault charge can affect your entire life and may prevent you from pursuing legitimate opportunities and occupations. If you are experiencing anger on the road, pull over and take a minute to let it pass.
