The Greater Trail Area Hospice Society will be having a swim-a-thon to raise awareness of all the services available to our community.

Brenda Hooper, Hospice Board Chair notes, “Like most non-profit organizations much of our financial support is provided through donations; without our community support we couldn’t make a positive difference in this community.”

Trained Hospice volunteers are the core of our program. During times of changing health and grief, it is vital to have people you can rely on. Volunteers provide so much more than end-of-life care ; our hospice also offers support through grief, caregiver groups, help for people navigating life-limiting health transitions, and advance care planning assistance.

We want you to know that we have 42 volunteers and 4 staff ready to hear and meet your needs!

The annual Swim-a-thon has a long history back to 1999 when Betty Evans-Davies was the oldest swimmer. She continued to raise money each year, encouraging other swimmers and promoting the event. Her family are carrying on her legacy of support for the Swim-a-thon and Hospice programs.

We hope to see you at the Swim-a-thon which will be held on March 7th, 2024 at the Trail Aquatic Center. You can swim or sponsor a swimmer. Swimmers don’t need to be expert level!

“If you can doggy paddle, float, use a kickboard or pool noodle you can be a swimmer for this great cause,” Brenda says. All ages and skill levels are welcome. If you’re feeling competitive, invite a friend and you can compete to see who can swim the most laps; have fun with it!
