Woman pleads guilty to 2020 homicide in the North Okanagan

The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit arrested a woman in conjunction with the homicide of an individual inside a home near Round Lake in the North Okanagan.

On Aug. 4, 2020 at 9:30 a.m 59-year-old Lynda Saundry was formally charged with the first-degree murder of 55-year-old Barry Jones from the North Okanagan and was remanded at the appearance.

On March 5, 2024 in Kelowna Law Courts, Saundry entered a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter. In a joint submission with the BC Prosecution Service and defence counsel Saundry was sentenced to 10 years.

“I am proud of our officers and partners hard work on this file. We are grateful for the support we have had throughout this investigation and our hearts go out to the victim’s family and friends as we continue to support them,” says S/Sgt. The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of an individual who was discovered deceased inside a home near Round Lake in the North Okanagan.

On July 30, 2020 shortly before 9:30 a.m., North Okanagan Rural RCMP was called to a home situated along Emery Louis Road near Round Lake, after the remains of a deceased individual was found inside.

Police believe that criminality was involved in the individual’s sudden death, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Southeast District. RCMP do not believe there is any risk to public safety.

The Vernon RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section is supporting the Southeast District Major Crime Unit in the investigation.

The BC Coroners Service has also been notified and will be conducting a concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine a cause of death.
