New Democrat MLA and B.C. Finance Minister Katrine Conroy announced today that she will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming provincial election.

“It has been a true honour to serve my community and this province for nearly 20 years,” said Conroy, MLA for Kootenay West. “We have accomplished so much, from expanding affordable childcare to building more homes for people. There is still more to be done, and I know our New Democrat team will continue to work for people.”

Conroy was first elected in 2005 as the BC New Democrat MLA for the constituency then known as West Kootenay-Boundary. She was re-elected in 2009 when the constituency became Kootenay West, and elected again in 2013, 2017, and 2020.

She has served in cabinet since 2017, first as Minister of Children and Family Development, then Minister of Forests, and since 2022 as Minister of Finance.

Conroy will continue to serve as MLA and Minister of Finance until the fall election.
