On Nov. 4, 2024, the Trail RCMP responded to a call in Montrose of a male assaulting a female on the front lawn of a residence. Upon attendance, RCMP members and BCEHS personnel found Lindsay Christine Danchella suffering from significant injuries. Lindsay Danchella was transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital where she died shortly thereafter.

Lindsay Danchella’s estranged husband was arrested on scene and transported to the RCMP Detachment in Trail and lodged in cells.

The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) was engaged and assumed conduct of the investigation.

On Nov. 4, 2024, after consultation with Crown Counsel, 46-year-old Donald James Danchella was charged for the second-degree murder of his estranged wife, Lindsay Danchella.

Donald Danchella appeared before a Judicial Justice and was held over for a court appearance on Nov. 5, 2024.

“The securing of charge approval was the culmination of the tireless efforts involving investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, BC RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and members of the Trail RCMP,” said SED MCU Unit Commander, Staff Sergeant Jason Smart.
