Kootenay cadets: They shoot ... they SCORE!
On the weekend of Feb. 28, cadets from the West and East Kootenays participated in the cadet Kootenay Zone Marksmanship competition.
On Saturday, Sea Cadets from Nelson Army Cadets from Creston, and Air Cadets from Trail, Nelson and Castlegar competed in Trail. On Sunday, Army Cadets from Golden, Invermere, Cranbrook and Fernie, and Air Cadets from Elk Valley competed in Cranbrook.
Once all the scores were tallied, the winner of the competition was 531 City of Trail Air Cadets with a score 1,434 out of a possible 1,600 points The Trail cadets Tyler Denny, Carter Langman, Linnea Lawder and Jessa Buckland will attend the Provincial Competition on the weekend of 21 March in Vernon.
Second place was the Golden Army cadets, third place was Creston Army cadets and fourth place was Nelson Air Cadets.
Also, cadet Rudy Crombach of the Creston Army cadet corps was selected to attend the Provincial Competition with his highest in the zone individual score of 372 points out of a maximum of 400.
All the units in the competition meet weekly in their local communities
New cadets are welcome at any time. Cadets are between the ages of 12 and 18. New cadets can start their application at https://registration.cadets.gc.ca/get-started.html
Adults who would like to volunteer with the squadron are also welcome.
