Kootenay Gallery of Art Presents: Grand National - Textures of Canada

June 12th, 2026

Textures of Canada, the latest Grand National exhibition, brings together a diverse and compelling collection of textile works that explore identity, culture, and connection across the country.

Featuring a record number of submissions from Canadian artists, the exhibition highlights the depth and variety of contemporary textile practice, from traditional techniques to innovative approaches. The selected works are organized into five thematic groupings: Grounded, Rooted, Coast to Coast, Naturally Connected, and Inspired. Reflecting both personal narratives and deep ties to Canada’s landscapes.

Textures have long been a part of how we express who we are. This exhibition offers a powerful look at how textile artists are engaging with questions of identity and belonging today.

The Kootenay Gallery of Art is proud to present this dynamic exhibition as part of a national tour, connecting audiences across Canada through the shared language of textile art. Textures of Canada will be on view at the Kootenay Gallery of Art from June 18 to Aug. 8.
