Metal Tech Alley was invited to participate in the RESOLVE Policy and Practice Labs held June 10–11 in Victoria, BC. The workshops were convened by RESOLVE and REGENERATION, international organizations focused on accelerating practical solutions for responsible resource development, restoration, and the recovery of critical minerals.

The two-day event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, Indigenous partners, and innovators to explore how mine waste can become a valuable source of critical minerals while supporting environmental restoration objectives.

Representing Metal Tech Alley, Paul Burgener delivered a series of presentations highlighting the region’s unique capabilities, infrastructure, expertise, and growing role in the critical minerals recovery ecosystem.

Day One: Financing Restoration and Recovery of Ore from Mine Waste

The first workshop focused on developing actionable policy recommendations for British Columbia on mine waste recovery from both active and legacy mining sites, to advance stronger environmental and restoration outcomes.

Paul provided an overview of Metal Tech Alley, showcasing the region’s concentration of metallurgical expertise, industrial infrastructure, technology providers, and innovation capacity that support critical minerals recovery initiatives.

Day Two: Minerals Recovery from Mine Waste — Supply Chains and Technology

The second day examined the supply chain models, technologies, infrastructure investments, and policy frameworks needed to accelerate the recovery of critical minerals from mine waste streams.

Paul contributed two presentations:

Supply Chain and Infrastructure Opportunities and Challenges
An examination of the opportunities and barriers facing critical minerals recovery projects, including transportation, processing capacity, infrastructure requirements, and regional supply chain development.

Mine Waste Recovery and Restoration Technologies
A showcase of the technologies, expertise, and services available within Metal Tech Alley that can support both resource recovery and environmental restoration objectives.
