Trail Smoke Eaters Sign Latvian Forward, Roberts Jānis Polis

The Trail Smoke Eaters are excited to announce the signing of 2007-born forward Roberts Polis for the 2026/27 BCHL season.
The Riga, Latvia product joins the Smoke Eaters after spending the past several seasons developing within the Rīgas HS program and representing Latvia internationally at the U18 level. Polis posted strong offensive numbers during the 2025/26 season, recording 25 points in 35 games in Latvia’s OHL while also adding 17 points in 11 games at the 1st League level.
“Roberts is a player that brings a lot of pace and skill to our forward group,” said Trail Smoke Eaters General Manager & Head Coach Eric Thurston. “He competes hard every shift, has experience playing against older competition, and we believe his game will continue to grow on the North American ice surface.”
Polis has also represented Latvia internationally, including appearances with Latvia’s U18 and U20 national teams during international competition the past three seasons, including the World Juniors in 2025 and 2026.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to join the Smoke Eaters organization,” said Polis. “I’ve heard great things about the team, the fans, and the community in Trail, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
The Trail Smoke Eaters would like to welcome Roberts and his family to the organization and the city of Trail.
