Alleged mother/son break-and-enter team arrested

Police are reporting a truly bizarre interpretation of spending time with family over the holiday season, after arresting a mother and son in connection with a break-and-enter.
Nelson RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little said police were called to a break-and-enter in progress at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, in 1000 block of Cote Rd, Crescent Valley.
“The owners of the residence reported seeing two people dressed in black, breaking into their outdoor workshed. They also noticed a vehicle parked nearby, which they believed may be associated to the break-and-enter. One of the homeowners began to chase the suspects, who dropped a number of items they were carrying from his shop,” said Little.
“Upon arrival, the officer called for the police dog handler to attend. While waiting, the officer checked the vehicle, finding the keys in the ignition and what he believed were break-and-enter tools inside.
“The owner of the vehicle, a 38-year-old female, and her 20-year-old son were seen walking down the road towards the vehicle. Both were detained for further investigation by the officer. The police dog handler arrived, whereby the dog managed to track the suspects from the works shed to where the officer had stopped them. In addition, footprints in the snow at the scene were consistent with the footwear both were wearing.
“The mother and son were both arrested for break-and-enter. The mother was later released to appear in court on April 5. The male has been held in custody and is to appear in court this afternoon (Wednesday). Both are new residents to the Slocan Valley area.”
