A fundraiser held at the Complex last night brought in over $10,000 to help local 11-year-old Cole Hoodicoff after a devasting ski accident.

Hundreds of people showed up for the spaghetti dinner, silent auction and dance, including Cole’s father Brad, who said he was overwhelmed by all the support.  “I can’t believe it – I’m just in shock,” he said. “I think it (the money raised) will make a huge difference for us (in coping with this).”  “We took a lot of photos to show Cole,” he said. “The support the community showed will be forever cherished … I was too much to handle last night. I’m so proud to be part of this community.”  He said he’s also incredibly proud of his son, who is getting a little better every day.  “Cole’s progressing, he’s in positive spirits and he’s excited for the future – he’s been the strongest person of all through this whole thing.”  Other family members echoed Brad’s sentiments.  “The fundraiser was just phenomenal,” said Marla, Cole’s aunt and the fundraiser’s organizer. “The money is being put in trust at the Kootenay Savings Credit Union here in Castlegar …that’s where we’re accepting donations now, as well.”  “Cole was able to go outside for the first time the other day …it’s a process, but he’s really making progress,” she said. “They’re moving out of the hospital and into the Sunnyville Rehabilitation in Burnaby for three to six months.”  More 140 retailers came forward with donations for the auction or for the dinner, with at least 30 volunteers pitching in to ensure the success of the event.
