Snowfall warning in place for West Kootenay for Thursday

Up to 20 centimetres of snow are expected to descend on the West Kootenay region today as yet another snowfall warning has been issued by Old Man Winter.
Environment Canada is saying significant snowfall is expected — from five to 20 cm. — in the entire West Kootenay region and into the Columbia region this afternoon and into the evening.
Like it has four times this month, a strong Pacific frontal system is to blame as it moves across the British Columbia interior.
Any snow that does fall is not expected to stay for more than a couple of days, as temperatures will creep back over the freezing mark by Saturday in Nelson, the Weather Network predicted.
Mild temperatures above the freezing mark are expected to stay in the region until at least Wednesday, even as late as Feb. 3.
Up in the backcountry, all of this snow means the potential for an avalanche hits considerable above the alpine on today and stays considerable through to Saturday — the risk sitting at considerable at the tree line as well.
Below the tree line the avalanche risk is low.
