Two Nelson men arrested under Mental Health Act

Two 30-year-old men were arrested under the Mental Health Act by Nelson Police Department officers in separate incidents in the city over the weekend.
One man was arrested in his home without incident on Feb. 25 and the other was arrested on Feb. 27 in the downtown core, said NPD Sgt. Dino Falcone.
“They were both transported to the Kootenay Lake Hospital where a physician admitted them to a psychiatric facility,” he said.
In all, the Nelson Police Department handled nearly 50 calls for service since Friday, Feb. 25.
They handed out two immediate roadside prohibitions, which included the drivers losing their driver’s licence for 90 days and had their vehicles impounded for a mandatory 30 days (estimated cost to each driver is over $4,000).
A 33-year-old woman was arrested Friday, Feb. 27 at 4 a.m. for breaching her undertaking after she was found to be drinking alcohol. One of the conditions of her probation was to abstain absolutely from the consumption of alcohol.
She was also issued an immediate roadside prohibition after blowing a fail on the approved screening device.
The Alberta female is scheduled to attend Nelson Provincial Court on April 19.
“She was released Friday after spending a few hours in cells sobering up,” Sgt. Falcone said.
