Police diffused a potentially volatile situation on Friday night as a woman prepared to jump from the Nelson Bridge.

Around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday morning Nelson Police officers were called to the scene on the bridge as a distraught female threatened to jump.

“Police arrived in time to prevent the female from doing so and took her into custody,” said NPD Sgt. Steve Bank.

Seeing as she was intoxicated, he said, the woman was taken to the NPD office and kept under observation until morning.

“She is presently under mental health care,” said Sgt. Bank.

Never wake a sleeping bear

Police were called to a downtown bar Saturday night regarding a violent and intoxicated man who was fighting with bar staff.

The man had been found passed out inside the bar and he became aggressive and violent upon being woken up.

The man was taken into police custody and was held overnight until he sobered up. Charges are being contemplated.

Keep on fighting until the end

A 34-year-old man never knew when to say when.

On Thursday night the man drew the attention of Nelson Police when he was reported to be violent, intoxicated and began fighting with staff of a downtown licensed bar.

“Upon arrival the patron had to be restrained by police as he continued to fight and resist being arrested,” said Sgt. Bank.

That didn’t end as the man was taken to police cells, where he continued to fight, resist but now threaten police officers.

The man was detained overnight until he sobered up. Charges are being contemplated.
