Canucks bump tele-town hall meeting planned for Nelson, Castlegar

For the second time this week hockey has trumped politics.
The tele-town hall meeting about the pros and cons of the harmonized sales tax planned for Nelson, Castlegar and the Kootenay region has been cancelled because it conflicts with a Canucks playoff game.
A town hall had been planned for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. MDT) in the region, and for 7:15 p.m. in the Richmond/South Delta/North Shore areas of the Lower Mainland.
Both have been cancelled because the Canucks take on Nashville in Game 1 of the second-round series starting at 6 p.m., announced Minister of Finance Kevin Falcon and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Blair Lekstrom in a statement.
New dates will be announced as soon as possible, they said, while adding: “Go Canucks go!”
The first town halls were also cancelled because they were planned for the same time as Game 7 on Tuesday, in which the Canucks advanced with a 2-1 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The discussions, hosted by Falcon and Lekstrom, are a chance to talk directly with the ministers about the HST and how it can be improved. A referendum on whether to keep or scrap the tax is planned for early summer, with ballots being mailed out beginning on June 13.
