'Internationally well known DJ' lands in NPD cells overnight for Immigration violation

An immigration violation by an “internationally well known DJ” from the U.S. landed the man in jail Friday night.
Nelson Police arrested the 27-year-old DJ and U.S. citizen at a local bar for the violations around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday.
The man was transported to the Nelson Police Department, served a detention order by Immigration officials and held overnight.
Immigration officers interviewed him later on Saturday, said acting staff Sgt. Dino Falcone.
“He was released without conditions and is scheduled to be interviewed by Immigration officials in Vancouver on June 1,” he said.
Not to be taken lightly
Uttering threats seemed to be in style last week as Nelson Police fielded two such incidents.
Police arrested a 46-year-old man from Nelson for assault and uttering threats Friday evening. He allegedly targeted a male known to him in a local park.
The victim sustained minor injuries. The accused was released on strict conditions and scheduled to appear in Nelson Provincial Court on Aug. 9.
The incident is still under investigation.
The next night police arrested a 25-year-old man for breach of an undertaking and three counts of uttering death threats to a police officer.
He was on conditions to abstain from drinking alcohol from a previous break-and-enter charge.
“He was allegedly found in possession of open liquor and appeared to be intoxicated,” said Sgt. Falcone.
The man was remanded to court for Monday, May 30 after a bail hearing was conducted via teleconference with a judicial Justice of the Peace.
High cost of driving
Police handed out one immediate roadside prohibition on the weekend as drinking and driving cost a Nelson man well over $4,000.
The driver lost his licence for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Run, Forest, run
A man who refused to give his name to police after he was caught drinking in public fled from police as they attempted to arrest him.
Police noticed a young male drinking liquor in public in the downtown core on Saturday evening. When the officer requested identification from the 24-year-old man, he refused to provide his name.
When the officer attempted to arrest him for obstruction, he assaulted the officer and fled the scene. A foot chase ensued and involved several officers.
The accused was finally located after running several blocks from the police.
The man now faces charges of assaulting an officer, obstruction, resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody. The man was held overnight on Saturday until he was sober. He is scheduled to appear in Nelson Provincial Court on Aug. 9.
