R/T's Bennett shoots even par to capture Christina Lake title

Stop two on the West Kootenay Zone One Junior Golf circuit and another Rossland/Trail player claims the top prize.
Kevin Bennett fired an even-par 72 to edge home-course favourite Tanner Kopan by three shots to claim the overall title Sunday at the Christina Lake Golf and Country Club.
Bennett’s teammate Brenan Moroney won the opening stop on the tour in Balfour.
Bennett was one of four players — Kopan (75), Jordan Hoodikoff of Christina Lake (76) and Tyler McKay of RTCC (79) — to break 80 during the 18-hole tournament on the 6,760-yard, par 72 track.
Kopan won the 17-18 year-old division, edging Hoodicoff by one stroke. Nolan Taylor of Granite Pointe finished third with an 82.
McKay won the 15-16 year-old category over Garrett Underwood of Champion Lakes with an 83.
Moroney was third at 84.
Trevor Pereverzoff of Christina Lake topped the 13-14 division with a scored of 82. Ryan Fullerton of Rossland/Trail was second at 92 followed by Isaac Janzen of Creston at 95.
The tour shifts to Nakusp Saturday before stopping at Granite Pointe Sunday.

Tyler McKay is fourth with Nolan Taylor of Granite Pointe tied for fifth with Trevor Pereverzoff, each with 22 points.
B.C. Amateur playdowns later this month
The Castlegar Golf & Country Club and Granite Point Golf Club will be hosting the Zone play downs for region, the events are May 28th and 29th at Castlegar & Granite Pointe. The top players gain automatic entry into the B.C. Amateur Men’s Golf Championship July 12-15 at the Dunes in Kamloops.
