Three-vehicle accident slows traffic on Highway 3A Monday

Afternoon commuters were slowed Monday on their drive home from work by a three-vehicle accident on Highway 3A, 300 meters east of Pacific Insight Electronics.
 

RCMP, the Nelson Fire Department and B.C. Ambulance all responded to the accident that saw two occupants taken to Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson with non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., a vehicle heading east came across the yellow line toward a westbound compact car.

The female driver of the westbound compact car veered toward the shoulder, caught the loose gravel before shooting across the highway into the muddy ditch.

The driver of the car in the ditch was not injured and was later able to drive her vehicle away from the accident scene.

The blue eastbound GMC SUV proceeded across the yellow line, colliding with a a red compact car.

RCMP on the scene told The Nelson Daily two occupants in the vehicles were taken by B.C. Ambulance to KLH as a precaution.

Another occupant was able to walk away from the accident.

Traffic was slowed for a few hours as RCMP investigated the scene. Alcohol is believed to be involved.
