Surrey RCMP estimate that approximately 4,000 hockey fans attended the Central City Plaza in City Centre on Saturday night to watch the live television broadcast of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The event continues to be a family-friendly affair providing an opportunity for local fans to come together and cheer on the Vancouver Canucks.

Around 5,000 plus people gathered at the corner of Scott Road and 72nd Avenue following the game to celebrate the Canucks’ latest victory. There were no incidents of note except for one arrest involving an intoxicated minor who was released into the care of his parents.

So far, only two arrests have taken place at this location during post game celebrations throughout the entire Canucks playoff run. Minimal liquor pour-outs and bylaw tickets have been issued as well.

“Celebrants continue to enjoy themselves responsibly,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Drew Grainger. “The residents of Surrey are really showing their true colours – how as a community they can come together and celebrate in an overwhelmingly positive manner.”

As warmer weather is expected throughout the week, police are expecting big crowds again tonight and with every Canucks win as they get closer to hockey’s ultimate prize.

Surrey RCMP will have dozens of officers strategically placed at both locations proactively engaging fans who come out to celebrate and ensuring the safety of all pedestrians and the general public as well as ensuring there is not an over indulgence in alcohol or drugs.
