Trafalgar places second in BC's Year of Science celebration

Science has become part of the culture of Trafalgar Middle School.
The school placed second in the province with 34.25 per cent student participation in the regional science fair, behind only Fort St. John’s Duncan Cran Elementary (60 per cent).
Each school will win their choice of a fully loaded laptop computer or an audio sound system with iPod docking station.
These are the schools that had the most students participate in the most science challenges, based on percentage of enrolment, showing overall engagement in science by students and their teachers.
Captain Meares Elementary Secondary School in Tahsis, BC, with 29.5 per cent of students participating over the year, was in third place.
The Science Fair Foundation BC (SFF BC) and schools across the province celebrated record participation in science, and outstanding results from regional and national science fairs.
The Year of Science challenges began on Jan. 12 with a cross province Science Quiz, a list of “jeopardy” style questions posed by BC educators and scientists for age groups kindergarten through Grade 12.
From there schools continued to use their Science Challenge Activity workbooks to participate in further challenges with schools eligible to win overall rewards based on the number of participants as a percentage of enrolment.
