August 13th, 2011

RCMP investigators are seeking public help in probing allegations that upwards of 30 young girls between the ages of 12 to 17 were sent south from Bountiful, south of Creston, to Texas as child brides, the Vancouver Province reported Friday.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said the investigation “deals with historical allegations that may have occurred in the late 90’s to early 2000’s, as late as 2005 early 2006.

“RCMP investigators are not aware of any more recent or any ongoing incidents where young girls are currently being victimized. The investigation is advancing and the RCMP anticipates sending investigators state side to Texas in the future.”

Warren Jeffs, head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day was recently sentenced to life plus 20 years in a Texas court after being convicted of sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault towards two girls that he “married” when they were 12 and 14 years old.
