Break and enter and assault with a weapon lands woman in jail

Unrequited love led to throwing a computer at an ex-boyfriend, landing an 18-year-old Nelson woman in jail.
Around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 police responded to an assault in progress at an apartment building in Rosemont.
Witnesses reported that an eighteen-year-old female entered an apartment belonging to the female acquaintance of her ex-boyfriend. The woman assaulted her ex-boyfriend and his female friend.
She threw a laptop computer at her ex-boyfriend and damaged a television and a wall of the apartment, said Nelson Police Department Sgt. Paul Burkart.
Police attended the complex and located the suspect locked in another of the apartment suites. Officers then spoke briefly with the female who exited the apartment a short time later and was arrested by police.
The female was released on a promise to appear on charges of break and enter and commit assault, assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
She is scheduled to appear in Nelson court in December.
Hit and run on a one-way street
It was my way or the highway for one driver as they attempted to reverse the flow of traffic on a one-way street in Uphill.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20 at approximately 6 pm, a vehicle was traveling the wrong way up the 600 block of Cedar Street – a one-way street.
The vehicle, a 1997 Honda Civic entered the intersection striking a 2008 Dodge Dakota which was traveling east on Silica Street. Witnesses indicated the Honda made no attempt to brake when it entered the intersection.
The Honda struck the driver’s side rear tire and quarter panel, causing the pick-up to spin 180 degrees before it a came to rest.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Honda attempted to drive away from the scene, but was unable due to the damage the vehicle had sustained in the crash.
One of the two males in the Honda exited the vehicle and walked down the road away from the crash site. The second male went to the rear of the vehicle and removed the license plate from the vehicle.
He too fled the scene in the same direction as his acquaintance. Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the two males.
EHS and Fire attended the scene and tended to the passengers of pick-up — the driver and her two children aged nine and 13. All three were shaken, but were unhurt.
A short time later, one of the males from the Honda attended the front counter of the police station and turned himself in. The 29 year- old Nelson resident admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and was subsequently arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and one count of dangerous driving, both criminal charges.
He is scheduled to attend court in December. The investigation into this event continues and further charges are pending.
Stolen vehicle from dealer lot
Also on Tuesday, a request was made by West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit for the Nelson Police to attend Nelson Ford to check on vehicles at that location.
Police met Nelson Ford staff at the dealership and it was determined that a vehicle had been stolen. The person responsible also damaged two other vehicles while driving the stolen vehicle off the lot.
The stolen truck had been spotted in the Castlegar area by an IRSU member and was later found abandon in a ditch. Damage to the three vehicles is estimated over $15,000.
The investigation into this theft is being undertaken by Nelson Police and area RCMP.
