Christina Lake's grow-op guarding bears likely killed by conservation officers: Province

The bears who guarded a marijuana grow operation near Christina Lake are likely dead, after area conservation officers reported having shot 17 bears in the region this summer, the Vancouver Province reports.
B.C. conservation officers shot the bears because they had become too habituated to humans. Allen Piche had admitted to giving dog food to more than two dozen bears last year.
Piche is facing charges of feeding dangerous wildlife. He was also charged with marijuana cultivation.
These bears had no fear of humans and were hanging around the campgrounds and RVs in Christina Lake, where people who were camping might not be vigilant about dealing with garbage, dog food or their barbeques.
The bears were seen rummaging through campsites, grabbing at window sills, attempting to enter RVs through open doors and standing their ground when challenged.
