Smokies earn first point with 3-3 OT tie against Merritt Centennials

The Trail Smoke Eaters finally got into the point column after the Silver City squad tied visiting Merritt Centennials 3-3 overtime tie Wednesday in BCHL action at the Cominco Arena.

Clayton Chessa, Chris Romanchuk and first star Adam Boytinck scored for the Smokies, which owned period leads of 2-1 and 3-2.

However, Trail could not hold off the Cents as Chad Brears scored eight minutes into the third period to steal the point for Merritt.

Trail out shot Merritt 41-32, including 11-6 in the extra period, with Reed Vogt of the Smoke Eaters and Cents’ Tyler Steel sharing the point in goal.

The teams return to action Friday in Merritt.

Trail completes its two-game road swing Saturday with a game in Penticton against the Vees.

Next home game is Friday, Oct. 7 against Salmon Arm.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
