Two Kelowna men are facing jail time after a string of break-and-enters in Castlegar and Nelson last week.

According to Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew, the two men were arrested on Oct. 20, the same day the crimes were committed.   “Kyle Hodson,19, and Phillip Helgren, 20, appeared in court the following day and pled guilty to these offences,” she said. “Both men were convicted of five counts of Break and Enter.”   She said both men were subsequently sentenced to three months in jail, followed by three years probation.    “The property and money stolen during these offences have been recovered, and will be returned to their rightful owners,” she added.   The two were caught thanks to the diligence of a local resident who saw suspicious behaviour and provided an excellent description to police, as well as the sharp eye of Castlegar’s Const. Rob Gardener, who recognized the two based on the witness’ description.
