Would-be thief locks himself into stolen Corvette

The Prince George RCMP sent out the following press release today, underlining the importance of having some degree of mental acuity before attempting to embark upon a life of crime:
On Oct.23 at approximately 3:10 p.m., Prince George RCMP responded to a report of a male with an axe attempting to steal a Corvette from a driveway on Francois Crescent in Prince George.
The owner of the Corvette had just “jump started” the battery and was putting the battery charger in the garage when a male jumped in the running Corvette, locked the power door locks, shut the power windows and attempted to drive away. Unfortunately for the thief, he was not good with a standard transmission and stalled the Corvette when he attempted to reverse out of the driveway. The thief could not restart the Corvette, as the battery was dead. This also made the power windows and power door locks inoperable, locking him inside the Corvette, as the owner called 9-1-1. The shocked owner was not able to take action as the thief was brandishing a can of bear spray. The thief attempted to break the window with the victim’s anti-theft steering wheel lock, but was not successful. He further attempted to break out with a hatchet that he had in a backpack, but was not able to break the window. When police arrived the suspect had just smashed the driver side window and was attempting to exit the vehicle. As it turns out, all the suspect would have had to do was manually slide the door lock to the side and the door would have opened. The suspect was arrested and his bicycle removed, without incident. Charges of Mischief Under $5,000, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Break in Instruments and Theft $5,000 or under, have been approved against Brent Jameson Morgan, a 20-year-old Prince George resident.
