A skier at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort experienced a near miss after triggering an avalanche during a run Thursday afternoon at the B.C. Interior ski facility.

Approximately 12:50 pm, the Revelstoke RCMP responded to a report of an avalanche being triggered by a skier in the “Thumbs Up” Greely Bowl area of Mt Mackenzie north side.

The skier who had triggered the slide was accounted for and provided information to authorities following the slide.

Initial concerns were also held for other skiers who were nearby and had witnessed the slide.

The Revelstoke Search and Rescue team was called in by RCMP to conduct a search of the avalanche.

The Search and Rescue team was assisted by RMR Ski Patrollers, and C.A.R.D.A. dog teams, which completed the search of the site Thursday and believe that no persons were buried in the slide.

“RMR Ski patrollers along with Revelstoke SAR Technicians and 3 CARDA dogs teams conducted searches of the avalanche site and debris field throughout the afternoon,” RCMP Senior Media Relations Officer Dan Moskaluk said in a written release.

“The search was concluded late in the afternoon, with searchers having a high degree of confidence with their search results and determination that no skiers were buried by the avalanche.”

The avalanche categorized as a class 2/2.5 slide occurred outside of the controlled boundary area, with part of the debris field covering an area within the controlled boundary area of RMR.
