Here’s what’s happening at the Royal Grill and Lounge in January:
Tuesday, January 17th – Magic Bus w/ Suplex – Showtime 10pm – Magic Bus Tuesdays is a night to hear some talented local musicians or dj’s with no cover! This Tuesday Dj Suplex takes the stage!
Wednesday, January 18th – Variety Shows w/ Estevan And Tracy Lynn – Starts 8:30pm – It’s the Royal’s open stage…come grab a bite, grab a drink and enjoy the many musicians who take their turn in the spotlight.
Thursday, January 19th – Vortex Studios Presents – $5 at the door – Doors 9pm – Vortex studios in conjunction with the Royal are proud to present this monthly showcase of local talent. The folks at the vortex are excited to show nelson some of the areas most talented bands and performers. Each third Thursday of the month we will highlight a different artist/band from the kootenays hosted by THE VORTEX ENSEMBLE (nelsons very own LIVE GLITCH/MASH UP project) This is going to be an exciting night of new music and dance floor fun!
Friday, January 20th – Colin Easthope & Leathan Milne (EARLY SHOW) – Tickets $10 at the door – Doors 7 p.m – Join us for an acoustic evening with two wonderful roots musicians. Blending the past with the present, Colin’s Easthope’s sound is infused with a unique perspective on the classic blues and folk scenes. His songs mesh traditional folk lyrics and blues riffs with an honest off the cuff contemporary edge. Leathan Milne is a soulful emotional performer who draws on all kinds of musical influences to help create his rich and warm sound.
Saturday, January 21th – Wax Romeo w/ Soup – Tickets $10 at the door – Doors 9pm – Now here’s a night for those dancing feet…two awesome dj’s in one night! Nelson’s, Soup will start the evening off and Calgary’s, Wax Romeo will carry it home.
Tuesday, January 24th – Magic Bus w/ Blair Altman – Doors 9 p.m. – DJ Blair Altman is driving the bus with week. He plays House music leaning towards the Chicago and San Francisco styles which are usually pretty funky, maybe a little techy, somewhat jazzy, with a touch of hip-hop lyrics at times. As always no cover!
Wednesday, January 25th – Variety Shows with Estevan and Tracy Lynn – Starts 8:30pm – Come to listen. Come to play. The stage is open.
Thursday, January 26th – The Crooked Brothers w/ Cattle Annie and the Crooked Corral – Tickets $10 available at Royal Espresso and www.liveattheroyal.com – Doors 8pm – Join us for an evening of folk and roots music with the wonderful Crooked Brothers. Their blend of timeless country classic sounds, back porch blues and stomping scrap yard funk has gained the attention of many folk festival and roots music fans both live and on their carefully crafted albums. All three members are songwriters and multi-instrumentalists each juggling and taking turns with banjos, mandolins, dobro, guitar and harmonicas. They really are a treat for your ears. Nelson’s own Cattle Annie and the Crooked Corral will open the show with their unique western sound.
Friday, January 27th – Flowmotion is now the True Spokes w/ Terradactagon – Tickets $15 available at Royal Espresso and www.liveattheroyal.com – Doors 9pm – They’ve played here once before as Flowmotion, but now with a new name and a renewed energy for their older music and newer creations they return as the True Spokes and come ready to rock the Royal! They are one of Seattle’s most distinctly diverse rock bands. This is an act that fails to fall into an easily packaged genre, succeeds in defying stereotypes, and throws one hell of a party no matter what city, town or festival the five-piece band happens to land in. Nelson’s jammy, improv group Terradactagon will open the show.
Saturday, January 28th – Big John Bates w/ The Cheddar Bunnies – Tickets $10 in advance at Royal Espresso and www.liveattheroyal.com / $12 day of show – Doors 8pm – Are you ready for Big John Bates!!! Well you all better be because he and his band are prepared to blow the roof off the Royal. Big John Bates have toured the world, awing crowds and even being banned by others. Their heavy, high energy live performances together with their southern punk rock has gained them some serious recognition in the music world. With his sound moving to a more dark and rustic place on his latest album we’re excited to hear what Big John Bates unleashes on the Royal.
