Quick action saves driver from vehicle fire

Quick action by a Good Samaritan may have save a man’s life Saturday in Nelson.
While the man was driving his just repaired vehicle on Vernon Street, another person noticed near Hall Street that the car was on fire.
The man flagged the driver down to warn the driver of the fire.
Nelson Police and Nelson Fire attended. The fire was extinguished and the vehicle removed safely.
No one was hurt during the fire.
Honesty not the best policy
An intoxicated female will appear in Nelson Court facing assault charges after she gave her ex-boyfriend a kick to the groin area.
Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., the female approached her former boyfriend in the 500 block of Ward Street before kneeing him in the groin.
While trying to recover into the nearby shelter, the women’s new boyfriend attempted to kick him as well.
Both fled the scene before police arrived.
However, believing her new boyfriend had been arrested two days later, the woman attended Nelson Police Department offices under the influence of alcohol.
The 33-year-old female was arrested and is to appear in Nelson Court October 23 on assault charges.
Her new boyfriend has yet to be located.
Man falls over railing into parking lot below
Friday at 3 p.m. Nelson Police received a 911 call that was transferred to the ambulance.
The NPD dispatcher noted the caller was difficult to understand and sounded intoxicated.
Using the 911 locating system for cell phones the male was believed to be in the area of the 600 block of Vernon Street.
NPD officers attended and noted a fresh half-finished can of beer on the sidewalk.
Upon searching the area on foot, officers found the male had fallen over the railing and into the parking lot below.
The man was transported by ambulance and treated for his injuries at Kootenay Lake hospital.
