West Shore RCMP is hailing the actions of a five-year-old Vancouver Island girl after she called 911 Wednesday morning when her mother had a seizure.

Rebekah Simpson told the 911 dispatcher that her family was in the back yard, while father was at work, but her mother wouldn’t wake up.

Simpson’s two younger siblings, Joshua, 3, and Caelan, 16 months, were also in the back yard.

Thanks to Rebekah’s work mother Olena Simpson was treated and is home resting Wednesday after suffering only a few scrapes.

Olena Simpson normally takes medication but the routine was disrupted the night before.

The family of the five-year-old girl gave permission for the 9-1-1 conversation to be released to the media.

This young girl’s actions show the importance of teaching young children how to use 9-1-1.

Dispatcher: 9-1-1. Do you require police, fire or ambulance? Hello?

Rebecca: My mommy fell down in the backyard and she wouldn’t get up.

D: Ok, hold on a second. I need you to calm down. What did you say, your mom what? R: She fell down on the cement in the backyard and she wouldn’t get up.

D: Is she up now, or no?

R: No she’s not up.

D: She’s not up?

R: No

D: Ok. How old are you hon?

R: — D: Fourteen?

R: No, I’m five. D: You’re five. Is there anyone else home?

R: Only . . . and my other brother is one and one more brother is three.

D: Ok, is it just your mom, she’s the only adult home?

R: My daddy’s at work.

D: Ok, so it’s just your mom. Can you see your mom right now? Hello? Hello?

R: What did you say?

D: Is your mom still asleep?

R: Yes.

D: So, she’s the one that fell right?

R: Yeah.

D: So she’s on the pavement outside?

R: Yeah.

D: In the backyard?

R: She’s not bleeding.

D: Ok, but is she awake?

R: No.

D: So she fell down, and she hasn’t gotten up?

R: No.

D: Ok. And how many brothers and sisters do you have?

R: I have two brothers.

D: Ok, are they both there with you?

R: Yeah.

D: But there’s no blood.

R: No, no blood on my mom. And she fell down.

D: Ok, so have you tried to wake her up?

R: Yeah, but she wouldn’t wake up.

D: Ok, and she’s still in the backyard, right?

R: Yeah. You think you can come here?

D: We’re coming and we’re gonna be coming fast. What’s your name?

R: Rebecca.

D: Rebecca, hang on a second, Rebecca, stay on the phone.
