UPDATED: Nelson drowning victim identified

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died Saturday, August 4, while swimming near Taghum Beach on Kootenay Lake as Donald Morris of Nelson.
Morris, 64, was swimming with friends in the Taghum area on the afternoon and dove from a rock face, briefly resurfaced and then went out of sight.
He was eventually located in approximately 3.65 metres (12 feet) of water.
The BC Coroners Service is continuing to investigate this death. Morris’ has been notified of his death.

A 64-year-old man drowned while swimming in Kootenay Lake 10 kilometers west of Nelson Saturday afternoon.
Nelson RCMP report the victim was swimming with friends near Marsden Road in the Taghum area when he dove into Kootenay Lake at approximately 4:22 p.m.
The man surfaced, then swam out of sight but never surfaced again.
Friends quickly conducted an extensive search of the water after realizing the man was missing.
Nelson RCMP, Nelson Search and Rescue, B.C. Ambulance and Beasley Fire Rescue attended.
A search of the waters located the victim approximately 12 feet below the same spot where he entered the lake.
The victim was transported by BC Ambulance to Kootenay Lake Hospital but efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
Nelson RCMP and BC Coroners Service are still investigating this tragic incident.
The name and place of origin of the drowning victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
Police remind the public that due to unseasonably high waters on the Kootenay River and along the West Arm of Kootenay Lake to take extreme caution when swimming in these areas.
Sunday, a vehicle left the road and ended up on the CP Rail track west of Nelson.
Details have not been released by Nelson RCMP.
