Fatal car crash near Trail

A Trail man is dead after a collision last night on Highway 22 between Castlegar and Trail, in the Birchbank area.
West Kootenay Traffic Services Cpl. John Ferguson said 53-year-old Franklin Murray Kotyk was heading northbound toward Castlegar when his 2000 Ford SUV crossed the centre line and hit an oncoming 1990 Chevy pickup.
Kotyk was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the truck, a Vernon resident, was transported to Kelowna hospital with serious injuries.
Ferguson says alcohol was not a factor, and both drivers were wearing seatbelts, adding the roads were snow-covered and slippery. The investigation continues, and police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact West Kootenay Traffic Services.
