A Blewett family is left homeless after fire destroyed much of the Cazakoff Road home Tuesday afternoon.

In the mid-afternoon Tuesday, RCMP, along with Blewett and Beasley Fire Departments, received a call of a house on fire on Cazakoff, approximately 10 kilometers west of Nelson.

The homeowner, who was at home at the time of the fire, thought the blaze might have started in one of the children’s bedrooms.

The children were at school at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters from Blewett and Beasley Departments responded to the blaze that engulfed the house quickly.

B.C. Ambulance also responded to the 9-1-1 call and took the homeowner to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Approximately 15 dogs were rescued during the fire.

RCMP continues to investigate the cause of the blaze that at this time remains unknown.
