Slocan Valley's Sascha MacMillan to represent Canada at the World Sport Stacking Championship

He’s 10 years old and national team is already calling for his services.
Sascha MacMillan is off to Orlando, Florida in April to compete in the World Sport Stacking Championships.
“Sascha discovered Sport Stacking on YouTube and watched videos of people stacking for a month before he got his first set of cups,” Sascha’s mother Heather told The Nelson Daily.
Sport stacking, which is also known as cup stacking or speed stacking, is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences.
Participants stack cups in pre-determined sequences, competing against the clock or another player.
Sequences are usually pyramids of three, six, or ten cups.
The governing body setting the rules is the WSSA (World Sport Stacking Association) with the quicker the stacking the better the stacker.
“While Sascha was waiting for his first set of cups he collected paper coffee cups and started practicing with those,” Heather MacMillan explained.
“When his first set of cups arrived at Christmas a year ago, he just dove in with everything he’s got and hasn’t looked back.”
Sascha, chosen to represent Canada by sending in his times to the coaching staff, stacks at least several hours every day, challenging himself to better the previous score.
Sascha, who lives in the Slocan Valley and home schools, still enjoys watching other stacker’s stack on YouTube and studies the better stackers styles and techniques while experimenting to improve his own time.
To help with cost of attending the World Championships Sascha is hosting a bottle drive on Saturday, March 16 at the Nelson Leafs Bottle Depot behind Nelson Ford at 120 Silica Street.
Bottle donations will be accepted on this date, however anyone that can’t make it can donate to the Sascha MacMillan Sport Stacking Championship account throughout March.
Mountain Valley Station in Slocan is also be accepting donations in Sascha’s name while Liz Babcock and Rebecca Hunter of Cloud Nine Clinic will be offering 20 minute sessions in Thai Foot massage.
Flower Essence consultations is donating the proceeds to Sascha’s trip.

Sascha was on Baker Street during the weekend showing off his stacking skills while raising money for the trip in front of Mallard’s Source for Sports.
“I can go a lot faster but the cold temperature on my hands affects the time,” said Sascha.
Sascha is joined by six other Team Canada members for the trip to Orlando.
