Coroner identifies person killed in motorcycle accident near Gyro Park

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died last week following a motorcycle accident near Gyro Park as Nelsonite Justin James Klassen.

Klassen, 24, was riding his motorcycle westbound on Douglas Road in Nelson in the early hours of (Tuesday) August 13 when he lost control while making a turn onto Morgan Street.

NPD officers responded to the 2 a.m. call and immediately located the rider at the accident scene.

Police locked down the scene until emergency services arrived and medical attention was provided by BC Ambulance and Nelson Fire Department.

However, BC Coroners Service said Klassen died at the scene of the accident.

Kaslo woman identified as person killed by falling tree near Clearwater

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in a camping incident at Murtle Lake near Clearwater on Friday (August 16) as Alice Bernice Gilbert of Kaslo.

The 66-year-old was camping with family and friends at a campsite on Murtle Lake, a marine campsite that is part of Wells Gray Provincial Park.

At about 5 a.m., a 38-metre-tall tree spontaneously fell, landing on the tent in which Gilbert was staying.

Others at the campsite summoned aid as quickly as possible, but Gilbert could not be resuscitated.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
