Four survive float plane crash near Tofino

Four people have been transported to hospital following a plane crash near Tofino on Vancouver Island Friday.

The four survivours of the six-people on the plane suffered varying degrees of injury and were transported to hospitals on Vancouver Island.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, search crews located the crash site where a missing float plane from Hesquiaht Lake went down.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) notified the Tofino RCMP that a distress call had been received at 10:55 a.m. Friday from a fixed wing aircraft approximately three minutes after the aircraft took off from Hesquiaht Lake (near Hot Springs Cove).

The site is located on land, approximately three nautical miles from Hesquiaht Lake.

The float plane is believed to have had one pilot and five passengers on board, with an intended destination of Gold River.

The identities of the deceased and survivors will not be released at this time. The BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board are now engaged in this crash investigation.

RCMP Officers will secure the crash site overnight, and assist our partner agencies in the days ahead as they conduct their respective investigations.
