Slocan accident sends two to hospital

Two locals have been hospitalized after an accident in the Slocan Valley yesterday, according to RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little.
“The West Kootenay Integrated Road Saftey Unit is currently investigating the cause of an accident that sent two people to hospital yesterday afternoon at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Highway 6 near Cunningham Rd in the Slocan Valley,” Little said in a press release this morning.
“A red 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, being driven by a 59-year-old Salmo man was headed southbound on Hwy 3, when he suddenly veered into the oncoming lane.
He said a 62-year-old Silverton man driving a 2000 Ford pick-up truck tried to avoid hitting the first driver by swerving to the right.
“The Grand Am collided head-on into the … pick-up truck, causing it to overturn twice before coming to rest in the ditch,” Little said. “People on scene assisted in removing the driver of the truck before the ambulance arrived. Both drivers were taken to Trail hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
He said no charges have been laid and alcohol appears not to have been a factor. The investigation continues.
