Fire destroys home in Pass Creek

A fire last night in Pass Creek destroyed a home, despite the attendance of three fire departments and roughly 20 firefighters, according to Pass Creek fire chief Brian Bebelman.

He said the call came in at about 9:55 p.m. to respond to a fire at the end of McDaniels Road, at a double-wide trailer mounted on a full foundation, with the front of the trailer at ground level but the back jutting out as far as 15 feet above the ground.

“It was a difficult fire because we were on a long, narrow driveway on rough terrain,” Bebelman said, explaining they could only bring in water trucks one at a time.

He said the homeowner had been cooking and the deep-fryer somehow caught on fire – by the time crews arrived, there were flames shooting through the roof.

They called for mutual aid from Robson and Crescent Valley departments, and Bebelman said they had the fire contained by about 4 a.m., with a flare-up later this morning that was quickly dealt with.

No one was injured in the blaze, but Bebelman said the double-wide is likely a write-off, and estimated the damage between $200,000 and $250,000.
