Car crashes cause commuter chaos

Two vehicular accidents occurred during the afternoon rush hour yesterday, but passersby may be relieved to learn there were no life-threatening injuries in either case.
The first incident occurred at roughly 4 p.m., according to RCMP Cpl. Debbie Postnikoff.
“The driver of a vehicle was turning left off the Robson Access Road onto Broadwater, and failed to see a motorcycle travelling southbound,” she said. “The motorcycle operator, a 44-year-old Castlegar man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Trail hospital.”
Postnikoff added he was wearing a helmet, which very likely dramatically reduced the impact of the collision.
She also said the airbags deployed in the vehicle, requiring the 18-year-old Castlegar resident to receive medical attention at the scene, but he did not need to be taken to hospital.
The driver of the car was ticketed for driving with undue care and attention.
Just an hour later, at 5 p.m., Million-Dollar Alley saw another collision, this time because a vehicle turning left onto Highway 22 from Minto Road (at the stop sign) struck a pick-up truck that was southbound on the highway.
One person was transported to Trail hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No tickets have yet been issued in this second incident, but the investigation is ongoing and charges may be pursued by police.
