The Castlegar Rebels picked up three of four possible points this past weekend when they travelled to Fernie Friday night and hosted Golden in a Sunday afternoon game.

The game in Fernie started with the Rebels getting a quick 1-0 lead 30 seconds into the game, when Aaron Petten scored his 16th goal of the season. It didn’t take Fernie long to respond, as they scored less than a minute later to tie up the game, and followed that up with a shorthanded goal six minutes later to end the first period with a 2-1 lead.

With the second period going scoreless and Castlegar killing five penalties, Fernie opened the scoring in the third to take a 3-1 lead with eight minutes left in the game.  The Rebels were able to battle back and score two goals in the last five minutes to tie the game up and force overtime – but just over a minute in, Fernie scored to win the game 4-3.

On Sunday, Castlegar hosted Golden, a game which again went to overtime, but with Castlegar coming out with the 6-5 win when Bryan Lubin scored his second of the game a minute into the extra period.  Once again, the Rebels penalty kill was perfect, wiping out all six penalties, while going one for four on the power-play.

The Rebels will have a big week of practices to get ready for a three-game weekend starting Friday against Creston at home, followed by a big road game in Beaver Valley and another Sunday afternoon game when the Rebels will host Columbia Valley.
