UPDATED: Missing skier found
There’s a happy ending in the searcg for missing backcountry skier Edward Perello.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Leanne Tuchscherer has confirmed that, as of 11:15 a.m. Search and Rescue have located the 47-yer-old Ymir resident.
“Perello is being extracted from his location and willl be taken to a waiting ambulance,” Sgt. Tuchscherer in a media release.
“His medical condition is unknown at this time, however, the search team has indicated that he appears to be doing well.
Sgt. Tuchscherer said RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance.
“If it were not for information provided by an individual who spoke to Perello and provided us with a direction of travel he may not have been located in time or at all,” Sgt. Tuchscherer said.
“We are very pleased with the outcome for Perello and his family. Once again, another fantastic effort put forth my SAR and all individuals who contributed to his safe return.”

The Nelson RCMP confirmed there has been a break in the case of the missing skier near Whitewater Ski Hill.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Leanne Tuchscherer said in a media release police received information on a possible sighting of Edward Perello.
“An individual believes that he spoke to Perello at the ski hill and was able to provide a direction of travel,” Sgt. Tuchscherer said.
“This information was provided to SAR allowing them to focus their attention in that area today.”
Sgt. Tuchscherer said the family has been contacted by the RCMP Victim Services to offer any support that they may require during this difficult time.
Search for missing skier called off due to darkness; will resume Thursday morning
RCMP Staff Sgt. Leanne Tuchscherer said a ground search Wednesday for the missing skier near the Whitewater Ski Hill had negative results.
“Due to the terrain and night-time setting in the SAR teams will complete their day at approximately 4 p.m. and begin again in the morning,” Sgt. Tuchscherer said in a media release.
“A helicopter was able to assist for approximately one hour today and if weather permits a helicopter will be called in to assist with the search tomorrow,” Sgt. Tuchscherer added.
Edward Perello, 47, of Ymir, had been missing since departing into the backcountry near the Whitewater Ski Hill at approximately 8 a.m. Monday.
SARS teams search for missing skier near Whitewater Ski Hill
Search and rescue teams from the West Kootenay are scanning the mountains surrounding the Whitewater Ski Hill for a missing skier, alone in the backcountry since Monday.
RCMP have identified the skier as 47-year-old Edward Perello of Ymir, who departed into the backcountry at approximately 8 a.m. Monday.
He had yet to return home and was reported missing Tuesday afternoon.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Leanne Tuchscherer said approximately 20-25 people conducted a ground search until midnight Tuesday.
SARS teams returned to the search area at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Whitewater Ski Resort opened for the season last Friday and through the weekend.
The resort is closed through the mid week.
Whitewater staff is requesting the public not use the ski area boundary until Perello has been located.
RCMP are requesting that if anyone had contact with Perello and could assist to narrow down a possible location to please contact the Nelson RCMP at (250) 352-2156.
