Man injured after vehicle struck by snow plow

An accident Monday saw one man sent to hospital after being struck by a snow plow, according to RCMP Cpl. Debbie Postnikoff.
“On Jan. 5 at approximately 2:21 p.m., Castlegar RCMP were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Columbia Avenue and 9th Street,” she said in a press release issued this afternoon. “Investigation has revealed that a northbound vehicle was stopped in front of the intersection crosswalk when it was suddenly rear-ended by a snow removal truck.
“The driver of the vehicle, a 68-year-old Castlegar man, was taken to the hospital by Emergency Services for medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. His vehicle was towed, as it had extensive damage to the rear end.”
She said the operator of the snow removal truck has been charged with Following Too Closely ($109.00 fine) and Speed Relevant to Conditions ($167.00 fine) under the Motor Vehicle Act. The snow removal vehicle had little damage and the driver was not injured.
“Police remind motorists to drop your speed to match road conditions and leave adequate stopping distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you.”
